David,

I just blogged about this same scenario a half hour ago. Face to Face is the way to go, it gives you the opportunity to see and react as well as determine the next step. Too many sales people forget about this and get caught only thinking about sending out proposals. Relationships are what counts and Face to Face is the best way to go.

This is a great reminder of "setting the stage" mentally. I like your visualization technique because it helps to shift people emotionally. You can't change your thoughts without changing your emotions first. The best way to manage your mindset is to first, relax your body so your blood flows to your brain. Then second, choose how you want to feel...thankful, proud, optimistic? Visualizing your success or even just looking around you and being grateful for this moment are wonderful ways to be present to possibility.

David, I agree managing our mindset is indeed our biggest challenge in 2009 and usually, any year. Often we are our greatest enemy. I listen to positive messages daily to help reinforce ideas and goals I want to take hold in my belief system.

However, I must disagree that meeting face to face is the better way to build relationships and develop business.

As a virtual assistant (www.simply-virtual.com) and virtual productivity trainer (www.its asmartdecision.com), it's been my experience that authentic, valuable and long-lasting relationships can be developed and nurtured through other means.

I work with a team of geographically disbursed virtual assistants who for the most part have never laid eyes on each other. We have manged to create an environment of trust and camaraderie and to build the same with our clients. SO many people are embracing (and enjoying) web 2.0.

Warmly,

Nikita Devereaux
Simply Virtual ~~ It's a Smart Decision!™
Phone: 1.888.814.9800 ~~ Web: www.simply-virtual.com

Virtual Assistance | Marketing & Design | Productivity Consulting
